The Galerie Montpensier style case with four bevelled glasses, surmounted by a glass sphere with detachable cover and with blue-lacquered ring applied with ormolu zodiacal symbols, housing the orrery driven from the strike train, with gilt-metal Sun, revolving inner planets of Mercury and Venus, the Earth with twelve coloured paper gores and revolving on its own tilted axis, the ivory moon painted for night and day, geared for its monthly and diurnal rotation and further compensated for its declination, set within a silvered and engraved annual calendar ring with steel pointer, with large plain ormolu bezel to the convex white enamel clock dial, with black Arabic hour chapters, outer concentric date and inner concentric day of week and corresponding zodiac indications all inscribed in crimson, signed De La Fosse à Paris, pierced and chased ormolu criss-cross time hands, blued steel circlet day and zodiac symbol hands, blued steel arrow date hand, the eight day movement with circular plates, spring barrels with pinwheel escapement and countwheel both positioned on the back plate, hour strike and passing half hour strike on one bell and passing quarter and three-quarter hour strike on further bell; nine-rod gridiron pendulum with knife-edge suspension, orrery crank key, winding key
