A PAIR OF GERMAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS
Circa 1695
With tapering sighted barrels with engraved half-length flats each decorated with a salamander, the breeches decorated with a grotesque mask, a figure from mythology and a large demon mask all chiselled in relief, each with double vent lined in brass, rounded locks chiselled with monsters and grotesque masks in relief, the steels each cut with an elaborate human mask, carved moulded figured walnut full stocks each formed with a pronounced swell about the ramrod-pipe (each with small chips, cracks and repairs), full iron mounts decorated throughout with a series of chiselled masks and monsters en suite with the breeches and locks (the pommels each slightly rubbed at the sides), and original iron-capped wooden ramrods.
