A FLEMISH TARGET CROSSBOW
Early 18th Century
With robust steel bow struck with a mark, retained by a pair of large iron brackets applied with bronze mouldings and with its original string of plaited cord, heavy walnut tiller carved with panels of swagged scrolls and fruit in high relief along the sides, inlaid with an alternating pattern of narrow strips of brass and bone along the top, iron bolt-channel etched with scrolls and foliage enclosing the inscription 'Anno Balthazar Der Poor Jour', bone nut pivoted between brass side-plates, strongly moulded iron trigger-guard, and large stirrup of iron and bronze: together with a windlass.
