A DECORATED TURKISH KILIJ
Late 18th Century
With curved watered blade of characteristic form with Turkish gold koftgari inscriptions within the long fullers on both sides, a gold cartouche reading 'Its owner Chaghali Zadah Sa S. Pasha S. Zaydi' (slightly rubbed) on the outer-face of the forte and the inner face with further gold calligraphic cartouches inscribed with the shahadah, gilt-copper hilt applied with filigree scrolls and raised settings inset with a complex pattern of turquoise and coral, in its gilt-copper scabbard, the inner-face decorated with repoussé flowers and foliage, the outer-face decorated en suite with the hilt, with five principle settings of turquoise plaques cut with brief talismanic inscriptions (previously gilt) and two rings for suspension (the blade lightly patinated, guard loose, some inlay missing).
