A LATE LOUIS XIV ORMOLU-MOUNTED AND RED TORTOISESHELL BOULLE MARQUETRY AND PARQUETRY BUREAU MAZARIN

Inlaid overall with Berainesque patterns with interlaced strapwork and foliage, the rectangular gilt-tooled leather-lined top with moulded edge, above a central drawer and a recessed door and a shaped apron, flanked to each side by an Apollo's head, acanthus and trailing husks and three drawers, each centered by a lockplate cast with a lion mask flanked by foliate eagle's heads and with leaf-tip border, with scrolling angles, the reverse inlaid with rectangular ebonised frames on a fruitwood ground, on cabriole feet, headed by Apollo's mask and terminated in foliate hoof feet, the leather replaced; partially remounted, probably originally with marquetry top
