This casket is a fine example of the fashion of re-using highly valued Boulle marquetry which flourishes in the late 18th Century. Many celebrated ébénistes of the Louis XVI period -especially Etienne Levasseur- produced magnificent pieces incorporating Louis XIV marquetry panels. The present lot highlights the fact that such technique of re-using Boulle elements was also fashionable in the 19th Century.
