The case with stepped top hood with inset columns and glazed side panels, trunk door decorated with chinoiserie figures and pagodas, on conforming stepped plinth, the 12 in. wide cut-away brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed John Swinburn/SUNDERLAND, matted centre with recessed seconds disc and date aperture, blued steel hands, the arch with silvered disc inscribed Wind me up/on Munday, the eight day movement with four pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; composite, case, dial and movement associated, adaptations, second half 18th Century -- 87½ in.
