Alain Robert, Le Mesnil, Reserve Brut--Vintage 1979
"The 1979 Reserve exhibits the richness, texture, complexity, and finesse of a great grand cru from Chassagne- or Puligny-Montrachet. It has just been disgorged after nearly 15 years. The wine boasts extraordinary intensity, full body, a rich, honeyed texture, and a long, crisp finish. It is drinking splendidly.
This tiny Champagne producer refuses to sell anything younger than 1979. The wines, which have their malolactic fermentation completely blocked (a la Salon), are bottled after considerable aging without filtration. They are made in an artisanal, Bollinger R.D.-like style that is likely to be controversial. They offer mature, intense flavors, considerable body, and a heavyweight, rich, intense format." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #99 (June 1995)
