AN HISPANO-MORESQUE LUSTRE DISH
FIRST HALF OF THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY, PROBABLY VALENCIA (MANISES)
Decorated in pale reddish-brown lustre and blue, the central lustred boss reserved with a cross and foliate forms, the well and border lustred with scrolling foliage and spindle ornament centred by lozenge-shaped panels reserved by ivy leaves, and divided by blue stylised flowerheads, the border with a partially filled pierced aperture for suspension, the reverse with a central rosette within spiralling lines enclosed by scrolling fern ornament around the border (restored crack from rim to boss and around part of well, restored rim chip with small associated crack to border, chipping, flaking and wear)
15¾ in. (40 cm.) diam.
