Lot Essay

Three scenes from the life of Christ are found on Chinese export: the Nativity, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection; in grisaille and, very rarely, in famille rose. Plates are seen most often, but a few tea services must also have been made. For other examples of the subject, see Hervouët and Bruneau, op. cit., p. 266.
