Lot Essay

The celebrated sculptor William Behnes (d.1864), who was commissioned to execute stone figures for Buckingham Palace in 1829, had executed a bust of the Duke of Cumberland the previous year (See R. Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors 1660-1851, London, 1951, pp.44 and 47)
