Lady Rachel Adela Scott was the seventh child of the 2nd Earl of Eldon, and younger sister of the 3rd Earl. She never married, and died in December 1869.

Thomas Price Downes was based in London, and exhibited at the R.A. A portrait painter by profession, he also painted landscapes and historical genre. Little biographical information is known about his life.
