A VICTORIAN SCOTTISH SILVER PRESENTATION SHOOTING PRIZE CLARET JUG
MARK OF MARSHALL & SONS, EDINBURGH, 1845
The ovoid, part-fluted body chased in relief with a frieze of birds & flowers centred by an armorial cartouche with arms of Earl of Eldon, later inscribed 'National Rifle Association, Wimbledon, 1862, Earl Spencer's Prize, for the best shot of the Public Schools won by John 3rd Earl of Eldon, Floreat Etona', the spout formed as a bacchanalian mask, the neck of jug with fruiting vines, leafy scroll handle with ivory spacers, gilt interior: 15¼ in. high (38.5 cm.), 42 oz.
