The original, oil on canvas, 347 x 174 cm, is in the Museo de Santa Cruz, Toledo. In 1607 at the age of 66, the artist received the commission for an altarpiece in the Isabel de Oballe chapel in the San Vicente church, Toledo. The altarpiece hung in the chapel untill it was transferred to the new-founded Museo de Santa Cruz in 1961 (see H.E. Wethey, El Greco and his School, 1962, I, pl. 384 and II, pp. 60/61).
