A pair of Japanese carved ivory tusks and lacquer stands, 19th century
the first section carved in low relief with arhats and their attedants variously holding vajras, fans, a scroll and a vase beside demons under a gnarled pine framed by cloud scrolls; the second section carved with arhats, attendants and boys congregating under a pine and looking up towards a monk raising a flower vase, all between cloud scrolls, each with a red and black lacquer stand carved with birds amidst flowers and floral honeycomb and lappet bands -- the ivory 6½in. (16.5cm.) high. (2)
