A large pair of Chinese famille rose Buddhistic lions, early 19th century
each modelled seated, the raised head with bulging eyes looking upwards and open jaws revealing the menacing teeth, with a blue enamelled body painted with fur marks, a puce coloured chest and a green moulded plaited and curled mane over the protruding spine, their right foreleg variously raised on a brocade ball and a lion cub, applied with a later wood tail, each supported on a waisted rectangular stand decorated with precious objects, flowers and fruit between bands of floral scrolls reserved on a blue ground and a classic scroll on pink ground -- 12¾in. (32.4cm.) high. (2)
