Histoire du modèle
Les Cadillac sont le fruit de l'inspiration de Henry M. Leland. De bien des façons et depuis le départ, elles combinaient des composants en provenance des différents département de Général Motors. Intégré en 1909 dans le consortium General Motors il suffit quelques années seulement pour devenir leader incontestable de la structure GM. En 1914, ils lancèrent le huit cylindres en V le plus vendu au monde qui resta en production dans sa forme originelle jusqu'en 1926. Cette même année le modèle 314 V8 fut lancé. Bien que possédant le même alésage course que les modèles précédents, il s'agissait d'une architecture totalement revue et innovante qui resta en production jusqu'en 1936.
Les Cadillac série 341 représentent l'entrée en fonction du très prometteur jeune designer de la GM, Harley Earl dont les premières prouesses débutèrent avec ces majestueux modèles huit cylindres. Avant 1928, les ventes de Cadillac tournaient aux alentours de 20.000 automobiles par an, une production qui doubla environ à la fin de cette année-là. Cadillac possédait alors la firme de carrosserie Fisher en totalité. Ceci permit aux ingénieurs de Cadillac, dont Earl, de bénéficier de plus de flexibilité et de liberté dans la création des nouvelles formes des Cadillac. En 1929, Cadillac lança de nouvelles tendances comme des instruments d'éclairage chromés, un lavage de pare-brise à commande électrique ainsi qu'une nouvelle implantation des feux de parking passant du capot à la partie supérieure des pare-chocs. Cependant, le changement le plus important concernait la boîte de vitesses. Cadillac adopta une nouvelle transmission silencieuse et synchronisée qui prit de l'avance avec son double embrayage ce qui rendait plus agréable le changement des rapports.

Cette auto a été achetée par l'actuel propriétaire allemand en 1997 au Royaume Uni, depuis ce moment il n'a cessé de l'améliorer sur le point mécanique et cosmétique. Elle a été utilisée pour des rallies de longue distance à travers l'Europe et jusqu'en Afrique du Nord, se montrant toujours fiable et attirant toujours les regards là ou elle passait. Il semblerait que la carrosserie a été fabriquée spécialement par Fisher pour un client Sud Africain, puisque c'est dans ce pays que l'auto a ces origines avec des copies d'un certificat du Veteran car club of South Africa et d'un certificat d'immatriculation de la province du Natal, datant touts les deux de 1974.
Munie de son espace de rangement pour des clubs de golf, les deux roues de secours de chaque côté de la carrosserie, sa capote et ses fermetures latérales ainsi que son très bon état général, cette auto serait bienvenue dans tout garage d'un enthousiaste de ces véhicules.

Model history:
Cadillac cars were the inspiration of Henry M. Leland. In many ways they came to establish the tradition of combining components between General Motors divisions. First incorporated into the General Motors conglomerate in 1909, it took the Cadillac Motor Car Division only a few short years to become the overall leaders within the GM structure. In 1914 they introduced the world's first commercially successful V8 that stayed in production in its original form until 1926. That same year the Series 314 V8 was introduced. Despite having the same bore and stroke of the previous models, it was an entirely fresh and innovative design that would stay in production until 1936.
The 1928 Series 341 Cadillacs also marked the introduction of the promising young General Motors designer Harley Earl, who first debuted his design and creative prowess on these tasteful eight cylinder cars. Prior to 1928, sales figures showed Cadillac selling around 20,000 units annually, a figure that would nearly double by the year's end. Additionally, Cadillac now owned 100 of the Fisher coachbuilding firm. This allowed the designers at Cadillac, including Earl, to have more flexibility and options in the new Cadillac's overall design and shape. By 1929 Cadillac implemented several new design features including chrome plated brightwork, electric windshield washers and a relocation of the parking lamps from the cowl to the top of the car's front fenders. However, the most important change on the car involved the gearbox. Cadillac adopted a new Synchro-Mesh Silent Shift transmission which did away with double clutching and facilitated a far more relaxed gear change.
Specific history of this car:
The car on offer here was acquired by the German vendor in the UK in 1997 since when he has continually improved the car both mechanically and cosmetically. It has been used on long distance tour rallies from Germany all across Europe, even as far as North Africa and is reported as having always been reliable while attracting the looks of the crowds wherever it was seen. It is believed that the coachwork was custom built by Fisher for a South African customer in right hand drive configuration, as this is where the car originated from, coming with copies of a Veteran car club of South Africa dating certificate and of the former Natal province vehicle registration document both from 1974.
With its side locker for golf clubs, the superb custom trunk, twin mounted spare wheels, hood and side curtains in fine order and good overall condition it would surely make a welcome addition to any active enthusiasts motoring house.
