Edo period (19th century), signed Mitani (Denjiro, act. early 19th century) on an inlaid gold reserve
The outer sheath kinji with clouds raised in low relief and rendered in black hiramaki-e and togidashi and applied with the deities Seiobo, the Queen Mother of the West, with an attendant and Jurojin on a flying crane in shakudo, gold and silver, the interior cases lacquered with archaic Chinese characters in gold togidashi on a roiro-nuri ground highlighted with hirame, the top and bottom kinji, interior of cases nashiji; fitted with a metal ojime cast and carved as Jittoku with a broom with gold highlights and a kagamibuta netsuke with an ivory bowl and a shakudo plate decorated with Seiobo with gold inlays
