A Chinese underglaze blue and red celadon-glazed vase, hu, 19th century
of flattened pear shape rising to the waisted neck with a lipped rim, applied with lug handles incised with floral sprays, supported on a splayed foot, decorated with two panels enclosing two birds perched on a prunus tree growing amidst rockwork and bamboo, the neck with two panels with bamboo branches, all between a geometric pattern below the rim and a key-fret border on the foot, the curved sides carved with leafy branches bearing peach clusters and bats, the pale celadon glaze thinning at the edges -- 15 1/8in. (38.4cm.) high.
