The cabinet is designed in the eclectic 'Renaissance' fashion introduced in the 1860s by firms such as the Tottenham Court Road department store J. Shoolbred and Company with the assistance of designers such as Henry Batley, who had trained under Bruce Talbert (d. 1881). A related dresser featured in their Furniture Designs Catalogue, 1876.
