CIRCA 1880, IRON-RED CROWNED INTERLACED D MARK, IMPRESSED UPPERCASE MARK AND CYPHERS, BLUE PAINTER'S Y MARKS, IRON-RED RETAILER'S GLOBE MARKS FOR JOHN MORTLOCK, OXFORD STREET, LONDON, AND PATTERN NO. 1392
Painted with a variation of the 'tree of life' pattern, the border with trailing vines of red and gold poppies, the gadrooned border punctuated with shells and enriched in gilt, the serving pieces with lion-mask terminals and monopodiae feet, comprising:
A soup tureen and cover
Two vegetable dishes and covers
Eight graduated oval platters in four sizes
Thirty-six dinner plates
Sixteen soup plates
Two soup plates of earlier date
