A MEISSEN SCHNEEBALLEN CUP AND SAUCER
Circa 1740
The exterior of the cup and underside of the saucer encrusted with applied flowerheads below a band of moulded flowerheads at the rim, each on six turquoise branch feet, the cup with a turquoise ear-shaped handle, the interior with a central medallion painted with figures by the seashore, surrounded by a richly gilt ground reserved with shaped panels of gilt diaper-ornament divided by shaped panels of gilt scrolling foliage and shells supporting four oval quatrefoil purpurmalerei vignettes, the saucer similarly decorated about a central medallion with figures in a landscape, gilt line rims
