A LATE 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN SILVER & MIXED METAL VASE IN THE JAPANESE TASTE,
MARK OF GORHAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY, 1880,
Of tapering form with wicker-textured surface & reeded drop handles terminating at the body in a flower-head, the fluted top above bands of rosettes, swags & tassels, the sides chased with roundels depicting an owl perched on a branch beside a crescent moon & a bird in flight above flowers & foliage, and applied with a kingfisher, a cockerel & hen, a butterfly, an insect & various foliage, the foot applied with a girdle of flower-heads, stamped "Sterling & other metals", 8¾ in. high (22 cm.), 27.5 oz.
