Including an Anglo-Saxon silver-gilt pin with stylized bird terminal, with plaited decoration on body and garnet inlay eye and tail, circa 8th-9th Century A.D.; fragments of Roman pale blue, amber and cobalt blue pillar-moulded bowls, circa 1st Century A.D.; a late Roman/early Byzantine amber glass pendant moulded with the profile busts of Apollo and Selene(?), circa 4th-6th Century A.D.; a Roman green and yellow oval glass inlay, circa 1st Century A.D.; a Roman iridescent glass roundel with eagle, circa 2nd-3rd Century A.D.; a group of Roman glass gaming counters, 1st-3rd Century A.D.; Roman, Byzantine and later bone pins and needles, bronze styli, keys and knife handles, 1st Century A.D. and later; a bronze inscribed tablet with two lines of Etruscan inscription; a group of mainly bronze fibulae including: an early Italic leech-shaped fibula; La Tène type fibulae; three Roman rosette fibulae, one with traces of enamel; a Roman wing and fanbow fibula with silvered decoration; a Pannonian knee fibula; a Roman enamelled disc fibula; and a large Roman gilt bronze crossbow fibula, all circa 8th Century B.C./3rd Century A.D.; a group of Roman bronze medical instruments including probes, spatulas, scoops and tweezers, mainly 1st-3rd Century A.D.; bronze and iron spear and arrow heads, late 1st millennium B.C. and later; a quantity of beads including: turquoise faience melon beads; glass beads including a large blue eye bead; and a string of amber beads, all mid-1st millennium B.C. to Roman period and later; a cornelian intaglio with profile bust of a woman; two granulated gold jewellery terminals; a group of Roman coins; and a 'Bonnet' type silver penny of William I (1066-1087), the majority of pieces either glued or sewn into three tiered trays within a William and Mary walnut veneered inlaid lace box, late 17th Century(a lot)

Provenance
Numerous find spots in England dating from 1861-1883; and a small fresco fragment from Herculaneum, 1866.

Late 19th Century English private collection, and thence by descent to the present owner.
