Three full-page engravings depicting caravan and camp arrangements (the first a light impression), list of errata and instructions to binder at end, several extra errata on a small pasted slip (inked date on flyleaf and shelf number on title margin). Contemporary calf, spine gilt, edges stained red (slightly rubbed).

FIRST EDITION, with the privilege at end dated 30 November 1707. A highly unusual manual for European entrepreneurs planning to ply the Asian silk road. The author, described on the title as "Geographe ordinaire de S.A. Royale de Lorraine," furnishes extensive detail on the organization of caravans, the price of camels, elephants and other pack animals, precise plans for defensive encampments en route and describes cities, principalities and terrain to be traversed. A VERY RARE MANUAL: RLG lists only one copy, the James Ford Bell copy. Bell B601.
