The same subject appears in Ostade's watercolour in the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris (Schnackenburg, op.cit., no. 86). This theme was popular among Ostade's contemporaries like Brouwer and Steen. The only other etching by the artist dated 1653 is B.34 (see lot 32 in this sale).
