Lot Essay

Only very few drawings by Mostaert are known. The monogram on the present drawing may be compared to that on the sheets in the Rijkprentenkabinet, Amsterdam, K.G. Boon, Netherlandish Drawings of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries, The Hague, 1978, no. 376, illustrated, and in the Fondation Custodia, Institut Néerlandais, Paris, K.G. Boon, The Netherlandish and German Drawings of the XVth and XVIth Centuries of the Frits Lugt Collection, Paris, 1992, no. 151, plate 103.
