Of circular form, with separate cover, decorated all over in shades of reds, yellows, greens and browns with a dense arrangement of flowering sprays, flowerheads, birds and butterflies, the lid with central gold roundel and a concentric band around the edge of six long inscription cartouches filled with flowing nasta'liq script and alternating with smaller quatrefoil inscription cartouches, slight damages

Lot Essay

The long inscription cartouches around the lid have the nada 'ali quatrain, followed by a couplet: rasid dast bi-dast az 'ali vali Allah , negin-e mohr bi-Sultan Husayn-e zill Allah which translates: "From 'Ali, the friend of God, it went from hand to hand, the seal to Sultan Husayn [son of] the shadow of God".

The smaller cartouches read: Ya Allah (O God), Ya Rahman (O Compassionate), Ya Rahim (O Merciful), Ya Karim (O Bountiful), Katabahu Muhammad sana 1122 (Muhammad wrote in 1122).
