A QAJAR DAMASCENED STEEL HELMET AND SHIELD, IRAN, 19TH CENTURY
The helmet of domed form rising to a faceted spike, with separate adjustable nose guard, plume holders and mail skirt, the surface moulded around nose and eyes and etched with a sun at top, damascened hunters and animals to body, damscened pseudo-kufic inscription around base; the shield with similar damascened design, a sun moulded in the centre, four bosses, damascened oval inscription cartouches alternating with flowers in roundels to outer rim - shield 19in. (48.2cm.) diam
