Lot Essay

The Jarron de la Banda was found in the Palace of the Alhambra at the end of the 18th century at the same time as the more famous 'Gazelle Vase', and was widely depicted in 19th century books about the Antiquities of Spain. It was, however, smashed. Fragments remain in the Alhambra Museum and at the Hispanic Society of America. This replica was likely constructed following the 19th century engravings.
