For another, but larger by the same maker see John Davis, Pewter at Colonial Williamsburg, No.16.
It shares the same touch, that of John Rebate of Edinburgh. (Edinburgh touchplate 1, II). This dish is certainly amongst the earliest datable pieces of Scottish pewter. It is rivalled by a pair of dishes by Richard Weir of Edinburgh, one in the Neish collection, the other in the Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
