Lot Essay

The "Maxi Oval" wristwatch and its daring design pays tribute to the swinging London of the 60s. Launched by Cartier London in the late 1960s, it differs from its Cartier New York "Large Oval" counterpart (see lot 85 in this auction) by the slender case and finer numerals.

Examples of both models are described and illustrated in The Cartier Collection - Timepieces, Editions Flammarion, p. 456.
