This daybed, designed in the Grecian manner, corresponds to a design dated 1806 by George Smith in his Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1808, pl. 63. Smith illustrated four designs for Chaise Longues which he described as 'an article admissible into almost every room'.

A very similar daybed was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 3 July 1997, lot 144.
