From left to right the following buildings are depicted: the Marekerk, the Pieterskerk, the tower of the City Hall and the St. Pancras or Hooglandse Kerk.

The present lot is accompanied by a letter, dated 18 March 1981, from Dr. Jan Kelch, confirming the attribution. He compares the picture to a view of Leiden by Van der Croos of 1651 in the Butot collection (see L.J. Bol, Holländische Maler des 17. Jahrhunderts nahe den grossen Meistern-Landschaften und Stilleben, Munich, 1982, p. 170, fig. 161). He considers the present view 'die künstlerisch bedeutendere Fassung'.
