The funnel bowls engraved with the Dutch maiden or Hollandse Maagd with a spear and a liberty cap surrounded by military trophies, and with liberty trees, inscribed Zijt trouw de burgerij verdrukt de Dwinglandij and the other with Bukt voor geen dwinglandlij gij zijt nu immers vrij, 'be faithful citizenry crush the oppression' and 'do not bend for oppression you are free after all', the stems with six-ply twists enclosing four-ply cores, conical feet with hatched arcades (footrims chipped)

The Patriots acted against the Stadholders of the House of Orange from 1780 onwards. The fourth Anglo-Dutch war (1780-1781) and the 'tyranny' of Willem V would lead to an alliance between the Patriots and the French. With their help the Patriots would defeat the Orangists in 1795.
