Lot Essay

Designed as a three-masted topsail schooner, the Ellen Wignall was built by Allsups at Preston, Lancashire, in 1877. Registered at 199 tons gross (186 net), she measured 113 feet in length with a 24 foot beam and was owned by J. Wignall & Co. of Fleetwood who employed her in the local coasting trade.
