A fine bronze limited edition miniature of the Greenwich 'Dolphin' sundial,
sculpted by Edwin Russell, produced by Brookbrae Ltd, London; 1977
with two dolphins supporting the crescent graduated dial-plate in their mouths', scratched on the reverse EJCR 1, the dolphin tails form the gnomon with the narrow gap between forming the nodus, supported atop a stylised wave to a green marble circular plinth base, in presentation carrying case stamped NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM GREENWICH, with spare dial plate (for changing at the solstices)
22cm. (8¾in.) high, the case 26.5 x 24.3 x 26.5cm. (10½ x 9½ x 10½in.)

Lot Essay

This beautiful sundial is the first in a limited edition of twenty-five commissioned by the National Maritime Museum based in Greenwich, London. It was commissioned to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Silver Jubilee, designed by Christopher Daniel, a then member of the Museum's staff and modelled by Edwin Russell, who also sculpted the 'mother dial' at Greenwich.
