the terrestrial sphere made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the prime meridian labelled Meridian of Greenwich, the equator graduated, equinoctial graduated in degrees and with the sigils of the houses of the Zodiac, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and Arctic and Antartic circles delineated, the Arctic Pole with hour circle with pointer, the oceans with an analemma and the southern and northern limits for wood, grain, the vine and bananas, the Antarctic with little coastline shown but notes concerning Captains Weddell and Wilkes, the terrestrial sphere orbiting a central brass Sunball on a rod, and mounted on a geared mechanism with pointer to a cast iron base with foliate-decorated fret-work central section and a hand-coloured engraved paper calendar scale around the circumference showing the path of the ecliptic, houses of the Zodiac and their sigils and days of the month
