Lot Essay

The golden mirror's arched glass is displayed in a rectangular tablet, with cusped spandrels harmonising with the architecture of Scone's Lennox Apartment fireplace designed by William Atkinson (d.1839). While the architecture of its trefoiled and triumphal-arched trestles corresponds with that of the bed executed for Queen Victoria's 1842 visit to Scone (J. Jauncey, Scone Palace, 2003, pp. 40 and 39).
