Upholstered in floral red and cream cotton, back leg stamped '16018/6553', the legs and castors stamped with the maker's name

Lot Essay

Howard and Sons are now most famous for their comfortable and elegant easy armchairs but were also one of the most successful and well-known of the Victorian cabinet-making firms. Begun by John Howard in 1820 they were established in Berners Street by 1854.
