A suite of very similar moss-agate set boxes, one circular and one oval, is illustrated in A. K. Snowman, Eighteenth Century Gold Boxes of Europe, London, 1990, p. 268. Snowman draws comparisons between the style of the circular box to the work of Dresden master Johann Christian Neuber. A further suite comprised of an oval snuff-box and a carnet-de-bal, both by Neuber, is illustrated op. cit., p. 325.
