EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Two autograph postcards signed ('Papa') to his elder son, Hans Albert, [postmarked Berlin, 15 November and ?December 1915], together two pages, 8vo.
DIFFICULTIES IN SEEING HIS CHILDREN DURING THE WAR. Einstein writes from Berlin to his son, whom he had left behind with Mileva in Zurich: in November he proposes a expedition to Switzerland for the New Year, and asks Hans Albert where he would like to go -- perhaps to stay with Michele Besso? Later in the year, however, Einstein writes that it is so hard to cross the border that a number of acquaintances have had to turn back without getting into Switzerland; he cannot therefore come and visit for the present, 'but at Easter I shall certainly visit you, and I shall wait at the border as long as necessary until I am allowed over'; a Christmas present in the form of money is on its way.
