The book includes five full-page prints, the first one preceding the text showing the Resurrection of Christ surrounded by twelve scenes of the Passion cycle, the other four before each gospel, portraying the evangelists with their apocalyptic personifications, the headpieces showing an event from the life of Christ: the Nativity, Baptism, Annunciation and Anastasis respectively, the silver cover with traces of gilding, chased with foliate scrolls, the obverse applied with silver-gilt representations of the Anastasis and the evangelists in high relief, the reverse with stump feet and an image of the Old Testament Trinity, each side with four cloisonné enamelled plaques, the spine with engraved, stylised patterns

The book opens with the following text that testifies to its commission: 'Through the ordinance of Our Most Pious Great Sovereign Lady Empress Anna Ioannovna, the Tsarina of All Russia, and with the blessing of the Most Holy Ruling Synod this book of the Holy Gospel was printed in the great royal city of Moscow in the year 7244 from the Creation of the world, and in the year 1735 from the Nativity of God the Word according to the flesh. 14th Indiction of the month of November'.
