EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph note signed ('A.E.'), [Princeton, 26 July 1954], in German, at the foot of and responding to a typed letter addressed to Einstein by Jean-Jacques Fehr, proposing that religion and science are not only not reconciliable, but also spring from the same origin: Einstein responds 'In this matter there is no authority. I can only emphasise that your conception essentially coincides with my own ... One must only be on one's guard against seeking to anthropomorphise that Reason', 5 lines on a letter of 1½ pages, folio, envelope; [with] a typed letter signed to the same recipient by Bertrand RUSSELL, Richmond, 30 October 1952, 'No intellectual problem is solved by supposing the laws of nature to have been decreed by a lawgiver', one page, 4to, envelope.
