ELGAR, Sir Edward (1857-1934). Autograph letter signed to Mrs [Caroline] Underwood, Plas Gwyn, Hereford, 18 December 1908, thanking her jokingly for the gift of a hearth pan, 'The great god Pan looks lovely in my study. He is too good (so are you) & too handsome (so are you) to be put in the back ground', with a punning superscript 'You are in my heart & the pan is in my hearth', one page, 4to, on a bifolium.
