Lot Essay

Under the direction of the Royal architects, Filippo Juvarra, (1678-1736) and Benedetto Alfieri, (1699-1767), the interiors of the Palazzo Reale in Turin were extensively redecorated in the French manner. Their grandness is reflected also in the furniture, the designs of which were either conceived, or at least influenced by the Royal architects.

This pair of Piedmontese console tables with their accentuated serpentine form, pronounced cabriole legs, scrolling frieze and rocaille motifs compare with examples in the sala delle Cameriste and the Galleria del Daniel at the Palazzo Reale in Turin, and almost certainly formed part of the Royal collection.
