Lot Essay

Michael Edel designed a chess set with similar elements such as pierced petals and multi-tier stems. The present set is certainly influenced by the design of the Munich master turner.
A set which is very close Edel's design was sold at Christie's, South Kensington, 2 May 2007, lot 45.
