Lot Essay

The present lot is one of a series of seven watercolours that Bawden painted whilst in Ireland with his wife in 1967-68. Whilst in conversation with Halina Graham he mentioned another series of watercolours, Horn Head V, Donegal, Eire, 'I was working at full pressure in the morning and completing it on the next morning, and working on another watercolour in the afternoons. The summer was exceptionally dry' (see J. Howes, Edward Bawden, A Retrospective Survey, Bath, 1988, p. 99).
