A specimen of the rapid comic dialogue which typifies Nestroy's comedies. Nestroy's variant on Cinderella, Nagerl und Handschuh was first performed on 23 March 1832 at the Theater an der Wien, in the year after his first engagement there. The following year was to see his first big hit, Der böse Geist Lumpazivagabundus.
