REINHARDT, Max (1873-1943). Autograph letter signed ('Reinhardt') to the actor Friedrich Kayssler, Berlin, 17 November 1898, asking him to join a tour in Prague in July, 'das Personal soll dieses mal bedeutend größer als sonst sein', listing plays proposed for performance, including Kleist's Zerbrochener Krug, Schiller's Kabale und Liebe and Ibsen's Ghosts, asking for Kayssler's usual rate, 'Du würdest künstlerisch in erster Reihe stehen'; he will play the role of Ferdinand in Kabale und Liebe, one page, narrow folio, on a letter-card. Provenance: George Cosmatos Collection, Sotheby's, 31 March 1998, lot 367.
An unusually early letter from Reinhardt: he was at this period chiefly working as an actor at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, and his independent career as a director did not strictly begin until after 1900.
